Hello!

I’m Clare, ‘The Movement Therapist’.

I’m a Sport & Remedial Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Swim Coach & FRC® Mobility Specialist.

I have a BSc degree in Exercise & Health and a diploma with The Western School, Scotland’s leading massage therapy organisation.

I am also in my 3rd year of a BSc Honors in Podiatry at Glasgow Caledonian University.

I’ve been working in the fitness industry since 2008. My unique skillset allows me to integrate my skills as a trainer with manual therapies. Using movement strategies alongside manual therapy produces infinitely better results.

My favourite thing is to deep dive into biomechanics, pain management and injury rehabilitation; so if you’ve found yourself in pain and don’t know what to do about it, or maybe you’ve tried everything else and got nowhere, I’m here.

Drop me an enquiry via my contact page or just go ahead & book your session with me, together we’ll figure it out.

Any human who wants to get better at being human…

I got you.

Why choose The Movement Therapist?

  • Qualifications

Not all massage qualifications are created equal. I studied sports at university and trained for a further two years to become a qualified sports/remedial massage therapist with The Western School - a university accredited massage course at Glasgow Caledonian University. I have over 10 years of experience in the industry and learning about sport, anatomy and all things health related is my absolute passion. Check out the ‘about me’ page for more info on my credentials.

  • Consultation

It’s all about listening to you and finding out where things are going wrong. I’m not just rocking and rolling with elbows & thumbs and hoping for the best. I don’t do generic treatments. We’ll spend roughly 15 minutes talking through everything on your first appointment allowing time to properly assess what the issue is & make a plan on how to move forward.

  • Tailored movement programs

An integral part of my work isn’t the stuff I do with my hands. Massage is only half the story. My background as a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Functional Patterns Practitioner and FRC Mobility Specialist allows me to see things that other therapists don’t & provide movement solutions to keep you moving well, long after your session is over. Everyone leaves with homework, it’s all part of the service.

  • Friendly environment

You won’t find any whale music or clinical treatment rooms here. The Activ Scotland gym can be lively, so friendly vibes & no frills are how I roll. It’s all about making you feel at ease while I get to work.

  • Online Booking

Secure sessions quickly and easily at your own convenience. You have complete control over booking, rearranging and cancelling any sessions that you are no longer able to attend.

  • Convenient Location

I predominantly work from the Activ Scotland studio in Glasgow City Centre, just 2 mins from Buchanan Street subway station.

Occasionally I work from home on the outskirts of Paisley, near Hawkhead Station. Treatments from my home are available on request.

Moving shouldn’t hurt.

You shouldn’t be sore getting out of bed in the morning, going down stairs or out for a run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Would I benefit more from a movement session or massage treatment?

That depends. If you’re currently in pain I would suggest a 1:1. If you experience pain intermittently then perhaps you might want to get started with movement classes first, & book a massage treatment only if you need more specialised advice. If you’re just looking to improve your sporting performance or just get better at life - then classes are your go to.

What is the difference between Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports / Remedial Massage?

Swedish massage is the basis of all massage techniques. All therapists must learn how to perform a full body Swedish massage routine before they can specialise into other forms of massage therapy. It generally involves stroking, kneading, wringing, friction and drumming motions. It is great for reducing muscular tension, stress and improving circulation and general well being.

Deep tissue massage is a stronger form of Swedish massage, the therapist will apply more pressure to manipulate deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is generally performed as a full body massage and is great for people with muscular pain and fatigue.

Sports massage is not performed as a full body massage but as a targeted approach used to treat minor and chronic injuries. It can also be used as a mode of enhancing recovery and performance.

Remedial massage is a targeted approach to treat minor and chronic injuries that occur outside sporting environments. It can also be used as a mode of enhancing recovery from injury, restore function and improve quality of life.

What should I wear?

Whether you’re coming for massage or movement, wear something comfortable. I need to be able to move your limbs around easily, which won’t be possible if you have tight jeans on. If you’re coming straight from work, bring some leggings or shorts with you. We have male and female changing rooms at the studio.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Sorry, I don’t accept walk-in appointments for massage or movement classes. My booking system allows you to book your session up to 12 hours prior. If you need a session more urgently you can contact me via email.

How long should I book for massage?

Again, it depends. The most popular treatment time is 60 minutes, however if you have a complex issue then a longer session would be useful. Although if you’re just popping in our your lunchbreak from a maintenance massage then a 45 minute treatment might suit you better.

Is massage therapy painful?

Massage shouldn’t be painful. At times you may feel discomfort but pain can be counterproductive, your body tenses up in response to pain, making it harder to reach deeper muscles.

You should always say if you feel pain during massage. Further prep of the tissues may help if the superficial muscles are tense.

When should I avoid massage?

If you are feeling unwell, in your first trimester of pregnancy or have open wounds/sunburn then massage is not advised.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, I have printable gift vouchers available via my online booking system. Vouchers are available for both massage and movement classes. Vouchers come with a code that the recipient can use to book their session online.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have 24 hour cancellation policy. If sessions are not cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours you will still be liable to pay for your session.
